Olympus PEN E-P5: here live on video

"Here is the new 16 megapixel mirrorless Olympus PEN E-P5 live: the first is the autofocus feature that convinces"
As we mentioned this morning, the Italian distributor of Olympus products, Polyphoto, organized a meeting to see live the newborn Olympus PEN E-P5, mirrorless Micro Four Thirds that borrows some of the characteristics peculiar to the top of the line OM- D E-M5, such as the 16-megapixel Live MOS sensor.

The new PEN, however, offers a renewed 5-axis stabilizer and autofocus FAST AF next generation of both of the details seem convincing in the first contact we had with the car after the press conference.
For the manual focus is also available the focus peaking function.
Among the changes the integration of a pop-up flash, while the absence of the EVF is partly mitigated by the presence in the catalog of the new optional viewfinder, which should make its appearance in some kits. Among the changes the ability to record timelapse, condensate automatically in a video, albeit with some limitations, such as the maximum number of shots set at 99. Interesting touch display adjustable, as well as the integration of Wi-Fi connectivity.

The aesthetics of the car, especially in the silver version, it is very apt and could be pointed to the new mirrorless vintage lovers and all those who have previously owned a PEN film. Here it is live in our video:

450mm wafers, TSMC aims to pilot lines for 2017

The Taiwanese foundry wants to complete by the end of 2015 the installation of all equipment and organize pilot lines for the production of wafers with a diameter of 450mm within two years

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company wanted to emphasize again the plans for the construction of the first plant will be equipped with pilot production lines for wafers to 450mm, which will be used from 2016 to 2017 for the production of transistors with FinFET technology and production processes to 10nm and 7nm. The foundry Taiwan also plans to adopt the EUV lithography (Extreme UltraViolet) for the construction of the chip to 10 nanometers, with the installation of equipment scheduled for the end of 2017.
JK Wang, Vice President of Operations for the factories to be 300mm for TSMC noted that the suppliers of the machines had previously shown some degree of hesitation to invest resources for the realization of instrumentation capable of working silicon wafers to 450mm in diameter. Wang observes, however, that the sector has now become aware of the transition to the 450mm and that the majority of manufacturers of machinery has allocated about 15% of the resources for research and development for the creation of tools for the production to 450mm.
TSMC's aim is to finish the installation of the new instruments by the end of the fourth quarter of 2015 and plans to build the first pilot lines between 2016 and 2017. The installation of instrumentation for EUV lithography scanner and the new 193mm wavelength for immersion lithography will instead be completed by the end of 2017.

Wang also revealed that TSMC will expand capacity at 28 nanometers to a monthly level of 100 thousand 300mm wafers by the end of 2013. The foundry is also preparing to start production of chips with 20-nanometer manufacturing process for 2014.

YouTube came the first pay-per-

"YouTube has launched a pilot project that provides for the subscription of a monthly subscription for access to certain channels"

The evolution of YouTube is very clear to those who follow the web for a few years: in a first step the available content was created by users through the YouTube platform had a chance to demonstrate their videos for free. The video quality was not professional, but that was just the starting point to create a considerable mass of users.
The phenomenon is then exploded with the availability of simple tools for video editing, also supported by new hardware and new mobile devices. In the meantime, YouTube was acquired by Google and shows the willingness to bring more and more content on the network quality, with the clear aim to capture the attention of potential investors and thus make the project profitable.
Since 2007 there is a YouTube partner program that allows those who manage channels on the network to receive a portion of the advertising fees obtained from Google. YouTube currently estimates that there are over a million channels capable of generating profits and, according to reports from the blog 's official YouTube, by the operators of these channels is requiring greater flexibility in distributing and monetizing content.
For these reasons a YouTube has launched a pilot project that allows you to offer paid content to a limited number of partners. The complete list of pay channels is available at this address and the monthly subscription at a cost of 0.99 U.S. dollars. For each pay channel is provided a sort of trial period of 14 days during which the access is free.

More than 300 million smart Mobile devices sold in Q1 2013

The first 3 months of the year confirm the strong interest in mobile devices connected to the Web, of which over 75% is based on Google's Android system opeerativo

The most recent data provided by Canalys show a very important to better understand the sales of smartphone solutions on the market. During the first three months of 2013 terminals based on Google Android operating system have totaled sales of about 3/4 of the total market.
It is a result of an increase compared to the figure recorded in the fourth quarter, a period in which the total number of Android-based smartphones was 69.2%.
During the period, Canalys estimates that have been sold approximately 216.3 million smartphones, a figure in line with the figure recorded in the previous quarters. Among manufacturers Samsung continues to maintain the largest share with about 1/3 of the total market, followed by Apple with 17% and follow everyone else with Huawei, LG and ZTE able to get a share similar to but less than 5% for each.
Analyzing all the products that can be categorized as belonging to the family Canalys shows a total number of more than 300 million smart mobile devices were sold in the quarter, including in this figure smartphones, tablets and laptops. For tablet given the estimated sales for the quarter of $ 41.9 million devices, a rise of just over 100% compared to the same period last year.
Speaking of tablet mark this as Apple continues to maintain a share of 46.4% of the total, with a steady growth by proposals based on Android OS thanks to the availability of numerous models with very affordable cost. What is happening in this market is a strong standardization, with margins going down because of the availability of models that cover market segments very different from each other. In this dynamic play a fundamental role products Android input, thanks to which an increasing number of consumers could approach the world of table t.

A quarter for NVIDIA to early 2013

The American company exceeded analysts' expectations by recording data higher than the same period last year, both in terms of turnover as net income and EBITDA

NVIDIA positive quarterly financial results for its first quarter in the financial year 2014 coincides with the months of February, March and April 2013. The figures are higher than that recorded last year as well as the best estimates given by financial analysts.
In the first quarter of fiscal year 2014 NVIDIA has achieved a turnover of 954.7 million dollars, gave up from 924.9 million dollars in the same period of the previous year. In comparison with the previous 3 months sales declined but this is expected, since the quarter coinciding with the Christmas sales season.
Good data in terms of earnings, totaling 77.9 million dollars during the reporting period against 60.4 million in the same period last year. The result of the fourth quarter of 2013 to the previous quarter, was significantly better for NVIDIA in terms of net profit with a profit of $ 174 million.
We point out that in the first three months of the new fiscal year NVIDIA has been able to achieve a gross operating margin growth than in previous periods: 54.3% versus 50.1% in the same period last year and 52.9% of the previous quarter. The estimates for the next 3 months are just as interesting: NVIDIA anticipated to expect a turnover of around 975 million dollars, with a variation of a few percentage points, with an EBITDA expected around 54.3%.

By TDK new SSDs for industrial applications

TDK announces new SSD controller-equipped porprietario with an advanced wear leveling algorithm to extend the duration over time of memory chips

The website Xbit Labs brings the debut of the new line of SSD TDK SDG4A designed for industrial applications and controller-based owner GBDRiver RS4. The main objective that TDK tries to pursue this line of storage solutions is to offer high reliability thanks to a series of expedients.
The new SSD, equipped with eMLC NAND memories, will be available in 2.5-inch form factor in capacities from 64GB to 512GB. According to data released by the company, the new SSD solutions offer a SDG4A 130MB/se read speed of 180MB / s write. The units are compliant to Serial ATA 2.6, with support for TRIM and NCQ technology.
The discs are also SDG4A based on improved wear leveling algorithms that distribute the writing of the information on all the blocks of memory in order to extend the duration in time of the flash memory chip.Even the blocks "static" as those for the operating system, periodically undergo an operation of wear leveling. According to what TDK, assuming a volume of writing daily 10GB of data, from a capacity of 16GB SSD is capable of supporting more than 200 years of rewrites. The setting of the static wear leveling can be decided freely.
The controller also supports a feature to GBDriver tolerance to voltage sags and is equipped with various advanced features such as ECC functions that make use of 71 bit per 512 bytes, automatic error correction mechanisms and encryption AES 128 - bit.
SGD4A SSDs will be available shortly, at a price not yet announced.
