As promised Canon has released the much awaited firmware update version 1.2.1 for the Full Frame SLR Canon EOS 5D Mark III. The update makes changes very interesting for certain groups of users. The change is putting more emphasis on the ability to have a video stream Full HD uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2 and timecode with the HDMI output of the machine. The video stream can be exploited simultaneously with the recording on CF / SD card and the display with information on the display.
The second change concerns the fund autofocus, with the possibility of using the center focus point mode with cross-F8 objectives (eg F4 telephoto lens with 2x doubler), just as it does on the top of the line EOS-1D X. In addition, under the same conditions, the 4 AF points surrounding the central one can be used as assistance to the autofocus system.
The firmware also includes a number of changes and corrections long enough, here they are listed as shown on the site Italian Canon, from which you can download the update and the new user manual, updated with the new features:
- The HDMI output uncompressed is now activated.
- Enables the auto focus of the center AF point when the camera is used with combinations lens / teleconverter Canon EF whose combined maximum aperture is f / 8.
- Improves the speed of acquisition of the focus of the camera when using the focus assist beam automatic a Canon Speedlite.
- Resolves an issue where the LCD monitor can hang and display Err Err 70 or 80 when you take a photo in live view mode or movie recording mode.
- Resolves an issue that could occur when setting the priority continuous mode is enabled for multiple exposures and after the sixth acquired image is a brief pause before the rest of the sequence is completed.
- Resolves an issue in which the viewfinder displays incorrect information in AEB mode.
- The communication with the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E7 has been improved.
- When images are transferred properly with the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E7 using the FTP protocol, you see "O". When the images are not transferred properly with the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E7 using the FTP protocol, you see "X".
- Resolves an issue where the camera may not operate correctly when using an Eye-Fi card.
- Resolves an issue in which the value of the focal length listed in the EXIF information is not displayed correctly for images taken using the EF 24-70 mm F4L IS USM.
- Resolves an issue where the lens firmware can not be updated correctly.
- Corrects errors in the menu in Arabic.
- Resolves an issue where the camera changes the value of micro AF -8.
- Resolves an issue in which the guide lines displayed on the screen can not be fully displayed when you set
the value of the upper limit for the [Setting the ISO Speed Range for Auto ISO / Setting the ISO speed to ISO Auto].
