"Among the many extensions installed on Chrome is now available in beta Chrome Office Viewer to view files in the typical Microsoft Office formats"

Google has created an extension for your browser called Chrome Office Viewer , which allows direct visualization of files in Word, Excel and PowerPoint (. doc. docx. xls. xlsx. ppt. pptx) within Chrome. In order to use this extension, still in beta, you must use one of the versions still in the development phase of the browser, so the stable release.
Chrome Office Viewer can be used on PC Windows, OS X systems, and of course on the Chromebook. Extension can also view files locally on the PC, there is no need to upload these elements on one of the many cloud sevices. This extension ensures the read-only content, while other tools such as Office Web Apps provide a higher level of functionality.
However, we are faced with a beta version, so it is conceivable that in the next release are implemented new options. But there is an interesting element to note: as mentioned above, Chrome Office Viewer is able to view documents even in offline mode. This feature, with the necessary changes, it might be useful in general or on the Chromebook on Chrome OS, projects struggle to take off because of the need to remain constantly connected to the Web.
