Over 50% of mobile phones sold in the first three months of 2013 were smartphones, which confirms that the demand for this type of devices continue to be supported estremamene.

For the first time quarterly sales of mobile phones have seen smartphones exceed, in absolute value, so-called feature phones. The data reported by IDC do nothing but confirm that as of smartphones is a rapidly and almost inexorable growth.
During the first three months of 2013 were sold approximately 418.6 million mobile phones, a figure in an increase of 4% compared to 402.4 million in the same period last year. By way of comparison we point out that in the fourth quarter of 2012 have been sold 483.2 million mobile phones in the world.
In the first quarter of 2013 were sold 216.2 million of the smartphone, representing 51.6% of the total market. Compared to the same period last year there has been an increase in sales of 41.6%.
Among the smartphone manufacturers Samsung continues to hold the top spot, with a total of 70.7 million units and a market share of 32.7%. Followed by Apple with 37.4 million phones in the iPhone family and a market share of 17.3%. The remaining producers follow well-spaced: LG, Huawei and ZTE are very close, with respectively 4.8%, 4.6% and 4.2%. The remaining market share, as many as 36.4% is divided among all the other smartphone makers to testify as half of the market, that is not in the hands of Apple and Samsung, is segmented on a large number of companies.
Samsung remains in first place also for the sales of mobile phones on the whole, with a volume of 115 million units sold in the first quarter of 2013. Followed by Nokia, with 61.9 million, and Apple with 37.4 million (only smartphone for this), companies in the first quarter of 2012, held the same positions today: the first one, however, has reported a 25% drop in the volume of sales, while Apple is growing although of only 6.6% on an annual basis.
