During the day on Monday, GlobalFoundries and Infineon Technologies today announced they have entered into a collaboration agreementembedded Flash (eFlash) at 40 nanometers. The collaboration will focus on the development of technology based on the draft eFlash cell and the production of Infineon microcontroller for automotive applications, and security through the production process to 40 nanometers.
Arunjai Mittal, Member of the Management Board of Infineon Technologies, commented: "The next generation of eFlash microcontroller with 40-nanometer structures will further improve our competitive strength in the automotive sector and in that of the chip card for security. Believe in GlobalFoundries and excellent background in their production and at different sites in order to meet the stringent requirements of Infineon for the quality, safety, infrastructure and business continuity. "
The close agreement with GlobalFoundries is a point of continuity with the strategy of Infineon to engage in joint development activities for CMOS-based technology from 65 nanometers down. The status of the process and products for safety microcontroller is scheduled for the second half of 2015, while the start of production for the automotive microcontroller is established for the first half of 2017.The production will start initially in Singapore and will then be transferred to the plants in Dresden, Germany.
Ajit Manocha, CEO of GLOBALFOUNDRIES, commented: "The decision to choose Infineon GlobalFoundries as foundry partner for the 40nm technology embedded Flash is a recognition of our ability to offer one-foundry thanks to the many factories exist in various regions. We committed to providing cutting-edge technology and the necessary capacity to support the business of Infineon. Looking forward to forge a long-term partnership with Infineon to contribute to its success in a very dynamic industry. "
